Ever since I was 12 years old I was carrying a camera around my neck. In today's world that's probably considered old but in the 1970's, bringing a film camera with you everywhere you went was a novelty. Regardless, it's been more than 40 years that I've been snapping images across my travels and the foreign places I have lived including Yokohama, Rome, NYC, Peru, Machu Picchu, Nazca Lines, Boston, The Hague, San Francisco, and Austin to name some. I studied photography while in Boston and went to SVA in NYC for art/graphic design later on, where I learned so much more. I incorporate historic moments/places, storytelling with fun vibrant concepts & characters, distinct movement within the composition, into my designs. Magritte, Matisse, Escher, Durer, Vermeer, Leifer, Cezanne, Moebius, Crumb, Griffin, Moscoso, Saito, Eisner, Davis, Kirby, Fairey, and the unknown Kaja Saudek are some of my favorite artists. I studied their techniques, color-use, and their unique contributions to art. Using the knowledge I gained later-on in my career, within print, like silkscreen design, various plate-making techniques, color-separations, transparent inks, multi-layers, varnishes, my works have taken on bigger meaning and giving my pieces more depth. Photography has always been a vital aspect to my personal happiness. Through my experience of travel, research, storytelling, print, film development, and design, I continue to develop new pieces and grow as an artist. The photographs I am most proud of are in my Travel Works section. To me they are pure. They capture the perfect moment by me being in the right place at the right time with the perfect angle and light. Ahhhhh.. I have hundreds of those moments, I get goosebumps all over my body when I recall those times. I have a few stories, sometimes one has to jump or go under fences, not listen to security and do whatever is necessary to find the shot you already envisioned. At least get as close to it as possible whenever you can. I truly love the thrill!
